Distance Assistant: Even More Safety and Even More Convenience When Working with a Remote-Controlled Lawn Mower

With the AS 940 Sherpa 4WD RC, AS-Motor Germany GmbH & Co KG offers a ride-on mower for challenging mowing tasks that can also be manoeuvred by remote control – a major advantage on steep slopes or under low-hanging branches. A new distance assistance system makes the unit even safer and even more convenient.

There are many situations where the ability of the ride-on mower operator to dismount and control the unit by remote control is advantageous. This ability increases safety on difficult and steep terrain and increases mowing convenience. The new distance assistance system for the remote-controlled ride-on mower AS 940 Sherpa 4WD RC not only increases the operator's safety, it also makes working with the unit easier. The system detects the operator's distance from the unit and automatically adjusts certain unit parameters, such as speed. This makes it easier, for example, to mow difficult areas or to load the unit.

When the distance assistant is activated, the maximum driving speed is gradually reduced from a distance of about six metres to a distance of about two metres to zero km/h – i.e. the unit stops in front of the operator – thus preventing a collision. In addition, when the blade drive is switched on, if the operator is too close, the unit first warns visually and then acoustically before the blade drive is automatically switched off. However, there are no unnecessary work interruptions, as the unit only stops in the operator's immediate vicinity or switches off the blade drive as a last resort. And if there are good reasons for the lawn mower to be close to the operator when the lawn mower is running: The operator can also deactivate the distance assistance system.
